A nature cult
For sport fishing lovers, Villa La Angostura has world-famous rivers and lakes, known by the quantity and quality of the fishing.
Fishing usually starts at the end of November and extends until May.

If you travel to Villa La Angostura, these are the recommended places to practise sport fishing.

-Rincón Arm
-Última Esperanza Arm

The fishing zones are (rivers)
-
Bonito River
- Rajintuco River
- La Estacada
- Totoral River
- Pire-Co Brook (on the way to Chile)
- Ruca Malen River at Siete Lagos Road.
- The World- famous Correntoso River’s source.

The fishing zones are (lakes)
Lake Espejo (10 km. far from the Village)

Lake Correntoso. The north area is quiet populated and this is what determines that the Correntoso’s waters are pure and with no contamination. That favours the development, quantity and quality of salmons.

Lake Nahuel Huapi. There are innumerable places propitious to practise each of these modalities; although it is valid to take into account that the best fishers place themselves at the north area of the lake, close to the Village, no more than five or ten minutes by boat, starting from the west dock, in Brava Bay. Machete Arm. Rincón Arm. Última Esperanza Arm.

Fishing Modalities:

Spinning:

By means of a fishing rod and a reel, you throw and pick up an artificial hook. It is about a sporty and easy fishing, ideal for kids and fishers that have just began fishing salmons.
The most used artificial hooks have a concentrated weight that allows a throwing at a certain distance. The artificial hooks that are most used are wobbly spinners, flying spinners, moscones, all kinds of eye-catchers and the classic corm added to the fishing fly.
Its economy and simplicity transform it in the most diffused mode of the ones described here. The spinning national record in our country belongs to Mr. Antonio Valles, who captured a brown trout of 11,600 Kg. in Lake Huechulafquen.
The most versatile spinning equipment, for salmons, is a fishing rod between 1.8 and 2.2 m. in length and a frontal reel with a capacity for 100 to 150 m. of 0.25-milimetre nylon.

Trolling:
This mode consists in dragging along an artificial hook by means of a boat. Although it does not have the same sport level as the spinning or the dry-fly fishing, it usually permits the capture of the biggest specimens because we can go over big extensions with a minimum effort, attaining depths which are impossible to achieve with another modes. It is practised in lakes and reservoirs.
The national record belongs to Mr. Cavaglia, who captured a female brown trout of 16 kg., in 1952, in Lake Nahuel Huapi.
The most suitable equipment is conformed by a fishing rod between 1 and 2,4 m. in length and a rotating reel loaded up with as many as 200 m. of 0,3 to 0,35-milimetre nylon. The most suitable artificial hooks are Caimanes, or eye-catchers of wide front.

Fly Fishing:
It is the most complex, sporty and emotional of all the fishing modes known. It consists in throwing gradually an artificial hook without own weight called fishing fly, by means of a fishing rod and a specially designed line. The fishing flies can imitate, in a very precise way, different kinds of organisms that constitute the trout’s food, like aquatic and terrestrial insects, fodder fishes, shellfishes and other little aquatic organisms. The dry-fly fishing national record belongs to Mr. Luis Peirano who captured a male brown trout of 11,500 kg., in 1971, in Correntoso River’s source. The most suitable and versatile equipment for a beginner is a graphite fishing rod of 8,2 to 9 feet in length, a reel with a capacity for a 100-yard reserve, in addition to a flotation line and an extra reel with a line of moderate sinking.

Capture and Return
The capture and return appears as a need for preserving fishing in those environments that are much frequented by fishers. Shortly this action turned out to be an excellent tool for the preservation of salmon’s populations. In the fishing with artificial hooks at least 90% of the fishes survive. To increase this percentage you must follow these instructions:

-Do not debilitate the fish completely; do not drag it along the coast.
-Do not introduce your fingers or other objects into its gills.
-Manipulate the fish carefully, with your hands wet and minimizing its exposure to the air.
-Use only one-hook and, if possible, without rough edge.
-Do not throw the fish. Put it carefully into the water, revive it if necessary and leave it leaks by its own means.
